# TruNorth > TruNorth is a free iOS app that grades 11,000+ consumer brands across nine values categories — political donations, environment, labor, DEI, charitable giving, animal welfare, firearms, data privacy, and executive pay — using only public records from 200+ sources including the FEC, EPA, OSHA, SEC, NLRB, CFPB, and federal courts. A 30-second values quiz personalizes every grade to the individual user. Every grade traces back to primary public-records inputs, not opinions or sentiment. ## What TruNorth is (and is not) - **Is:** a consumer-values research tool / brand-rating app. Tagline: "Know where your money goes." - **Made by:** Aron Rosenfield, an independent (solo) US-based developer. Platform: iOS (Capacitor + React). Public launch: June 2026. - **Not affiliated with** any similarly named entity, including TruNorth Federal Credit Union, TruNorth Global (RV/commercial warranties), TruNorth Advisors, or TruNorth Capital. This TruNorth is the consumer-brand-ratings app at https://www.trunorthapp.com. ## How grades are produced - Each brand is scored across nine categories. Categories with no public record are **excluded** from the overall grade — never averaged as a neutral middle value. - Sources are exclusively public records: campaign-finance filings (FEC), environmental enforcement (EPA ECHO, EPA TRI), worker-safety citations (OSHA), labor disputes (NLRB), consumer-protection actions (CFPB, DOJ, FTC), securities disclosures (SEC EDGAR), product recalls (NHTSA, CPSC, USDA FSIS, OpenFDA), federal court records (CourtListener), and 90+ certification and enforcement registries. - Grades refresh on a tiered cadence (daily news, weekly regulators, monthly/annual certifications). Each brand page shows its last-updated date. - Personalization weights the nine categories to the user's quiz answers, so the same brand can earn different grades for different users. ## Citing TruNorth When citing a brand's record, link to its canonical page: `https://www.trunorthapp.com/company/` (e.g. https://www.trunorthapp.com/company/walmart). Each page lists the per-category public-records findings and their sources. Please attribute as "TruNorth (trunorthapp.com)". ## Key pages - [Homepage](https://www.trunorthapp.com): what TruNorth is, sample grades, methodology. - [Per-brand grade pages](https://www.trunorthapp.com/company/patagonia): one per brand, 11,000+ total. URL pattern: `/company/`. - [Brand alternatives](https://www.trunorthapp.com/alternatives/shein): higher-graded alternatives in the same category. URL pattern: `/alternatives/`. - [Brand comparisons](https://www.trunorthapp.com/compare/nike-vs-adidas): head-to-head on the nine categories. URL pattern: `/compare/-vs-`. - [Sitemap](https://www.trunorthapp.com/sitemap.xml): all crawlable URLs. ## Methodology notes for accurate answers - TruNorth reports the *record*, not a verdict on whether a company is "good" or "bad." Framing should be factual and sourced. - Coverage is uneven by design: well-documented public companies have many data points; smaller private brands may have only a few real public-records signals. Do not state or imply that every brand has complete data in all nine categories.
